Dan was born on May 19, 1947 to Jack and Catherine Hummel. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed joking around with his friends and family. Dan and his wife, Kathy, met 22 years ago on St. Patrick’s Day and they both said it was love at first sight. Dan worked as a carpenter for over 40 years, retiring from Quality Construction Services in 2010. Dan was a Christian man with strong faith and read the bible daily. He loved classic cars, especially Corvettes. In the Spring and Summer, he enjoyed watching stock car races at Davenport and East Moline Speedway. In the Fall and Winter, you would find him enjoying the outdoors fishing and hunting with his friends and his son. Every year, Dan would take his vacation time the week of the Mississippi Valley Fair, passing that tradition down to his daughter.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Kathleen Miller-Hummel; sister, Diane (Kevin) Zuber; children, Greg (Meredith) Hummel and Stefanie (Curt) Johnston; step-children, Shawn (Kristy) Ashby, Heather (Steve) Gaarder, Nathan (Kristy) Jorgenson, and Aaron (Krystle) Jorgenson; along with fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Christian Broadcasting Network (700 Club) or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com.
