Charles “SGT Fluffy” Barton, 76, of Blue Grass, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Genesis East Medical Center. Visitation will be on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 5-8pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11am at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will be at Blue Grass Cemetery following the service. Memorials in Chuck’s name may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Chuck was born on July 24, 1946 to Joseph and Dorothy Barton. Following high school, he started his journey with the Scott County Sheriff's Office and spent most of his career as SGT of Civil 8211 with a total of 40 years of service. He was united in marriage to Catherine "Cathy" Swanson on August 12, 1972. Chuck was known for his unique sense of humor. He was an avid photographer, loved racing, theater, moose, breakfast, and Diet Pepsi. Chuck was a huge Discovery Channel and history buff. He never missed one of his grandchildren's many activities.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cathy; children: Joyce (Aaron Gerlach) Barton-Gerlach, David (Lynn) Barton, Judy Barton, Cyndi “Fred” (Kyle) Howard, and Bobbi (Thomas “TJ”) Barton-Burk; grandchildren: Austin, Hunter, Sydney, Owen, Charlotte “Charlie” and Finley; his brother Don (Nancy) Barton; sister Linda “Sam” (Brian) Doerfler; and his beloved Shih Tzu, Cujo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
