Carol Kakert, 74, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2022. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at The Runge Mortuary, located at 838 East Kimberly Road in Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church located at 4105 North Division Street in Davenport, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery, followed by a luncheon served at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
Carol was born on September 6, 1948, in Kewanee, Illinois, to Marshall and Stacey Erickson. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1966. Carol was a hairdresser and owned a successful beauty salon at Slavens’ Manor in Bettendorf, Iowa. Carol married John Kakert on November 29, 1983, and they had two daughters together. She was a wonderful mother, and the best years of her life were spent raising her daughters. She was very active in her children’s activities, including dance, show choir, volleyball, and tennis. Carol was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flowers. She had a great eye for design and showcased her creative talents through her hobbies. She enjoyed home decorating, landscaping, sewing, crafting, music and dancing, shopping, and taking vacations with her family. She had a special ability to connect with others and loved to laugh. She always saw the best in people and knew the right things to say. Carol’s joy later in life came from spending time with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
Carol is survived by her husband, John Kakert of Davenport, Iowa; daughter, Lindsey (Dallas) Vanorny of Houston, Texas; daughter, Lauren (Chad) Brudos of Campton Hills, Illinois; sister, Judith Knutson of Davenport, Iowa; and her goddaughter and niece, Jamie (Thomas) Doman of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Carol was also a beloved grandmother to four grandsons and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Marshall Erickson.
