Carol Dianne Crain, 77, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on January 1, 2024, at the Kahl Home in Davenport. A visitation will be held at the Weerts Funeral Home on Sunday, January 7,2024 from 2 – 5pm. There will be a funeral mass at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Davenport on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 10am. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens following the mass. Memorials in Carol’s name may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
She was born September 3, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of the late Leo Maier and Iona (Petersen) Maier. She attended the University of Iowa where she met her husband, Henry Crain and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Carol remained a loyal Hawkeye sports fan. After she graduated, she spent time in Tucson, Arizona teaching elementary special education and then moved to the Quad Cities where she taught elementary education in the Davenport Public schools. After the birth of her first child, she devoted her time as a homemaker to her husband Henry and their three children. She enjoyed spending her time involved in family activities, including volunteer activities with their schools, church, and as a Girl Scout troop leader. Once her children were grown, Carol became active in politics at the local and state levels where she held several positions and was widely respected by her peers, community and State leaders. She served several terms on the Scott County Civil Service Commission. She was also appointed to work on a committee for the City of Davenport allocating federal grant money for community improvements. Carol enjoyed traveling to California and Colorado to see her five grandchildren. She was a dog lover and had three silver miniature poodles, which were all very special to her, Maurice, Pierre, and Cantu. Carol was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Davenport where she helped in various capacities as a treasurer in the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteered in Sunday school.
Carol is survived by her husband of 53 years, Henry Crain; her daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Peterson of California; Kristin (Joel) Andersen of Colorado, and Bethany (Troy) Thaemert of Colorado; granddaughters Abigail and Ava Andersen, Sophie and Caroline Thaemert, and grandson Jakob Peterson.
