

Carla Frances Kirkham, 51, of Bettendorf, formerly of Charles City, IA and Sheldon, IA, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Trinity Bettendorf. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Village Northwest Unlimited 330 Village Circle, Sheldon, IA 51201. Carla was born July 31, 1961 in Charles City, IA; the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Wells) Kirkham. She worked in the Life Skills Center at Village Northwest Unlimited (VNU) in Sheldon, IA, where she served as the mayor. She loved music and spending time with her family. She also served as a Girl Scout and as a poster child for the Floyd County Cerebral Palsy Society. She practiced the Catholic faith.
She served as Queen of Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines and loved her camping trips in Iowa and Colorado. While here in the Quad Cities, Carla enjoyed concerts at the Adler Theatre and at the I-Wireless Center. She also attended the Festival of Trees and the recent Christmas Cantata at Christ Family Church, which she thoroughly loved. Her last birthday was spent on the patio at the Boat House Restaurant, overlooking the Mississippi River under a beautiful full moon, surrounded by her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her siblings: David Kirkham; Leslie Kirkham and Mary Catherine (James) Stoakes, all of Davenport; niece, Carly Stoakes, Davenport; nephew, Tyler Stoakes, Nevada, IA; great nephews: Croix and Theron, numerous cousins and an extraordinary friend, Ethan Van Gorp. Her parents and a brother, Paul, preceded her in death.
