KEITH, Sylvia Marie (McMullin) - passed away peacefully on August 25, 2017 at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre, Eastern Passage with family at her side. Sylvia was born June 6, 1928 in North Sydney. Always a clever student, Sylvia graduated at the top of the class from nursing at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, North Sydney. Shortly thereafter, she boarded the train to Montreal where she worked as a surgical nurse at Montreal General Hospital. At the urging of a friend, Sylvia later went to work for Trans Canada Airlines as a stewardess, based out of Moncton, New Brunswick. In Moncton, on a blind date, Sylvia met Arthur “Bud” Keith and they married on April 11, 1953. Sylvia and Bud settled in Annapolis Royal where they raised their family. Once her children were nearly grown, Sylvia returned to nursing and worked at the Annapolis General Hospital for almost 20 years. She is remembered as a caring and compassionate nurse and a favorite co-worker. Family was Sylvia’s “raison d’etre”. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law and a true friend. She was never happier than when she was holding a baby in her lap or feeding one of her grandchildren. Sylvia had a reputation for possessing a sharp sense of humor. With a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes, she always had a way of lighting up the room. Sylvia was a great and bountiful cook. As a devoted member of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Sylvia served on various church committees. In their twilight years, Sylvia and Bud moved to Dartmouth with their son Greg and family. There they delighted in their view of the lake and close proximity to family and shopping. Sylvia eventually moved to Ocean View, in part, to be with her beloved Bud. Sylvia is survived by daughters Jennifer Patrick (David), Janet Eaton (Scott), son Gregory (Lorraine); sisters Wini Poltz (Joe), Roseann DeLorey (Harry); brother Bernard (Joan); and sister-in-law Ann. She was known as Nanny Syl to grandchildren Mark and Nathan Condon; Zachary, Megan and Joshua Keith; Brittany Patrick and Mike and Chris Eaton, along with eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Parents Daniel Joseph and Catherine McMullin; brothers Joseph and Louis; and daughter-in-law Zena. A sincere thank you to the staff at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre for their loving care of Sylvia during her stay there. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass celebrating Sylvia’s life and her interment will take place in St. Louis Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1pm. Father Vincent Onyekelu officiating.
