

MARSHALL, SAMUEL H. (Scottie) – of Dartmouth passed away March 29, 2014. Born in Stevenson, Ayrshire, Scotland, he was the son of Sarah Craig and Samuel Marshall. Along with his family, Sam immigrated to Canada in 1931 aboard the RMS Scythia, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax. He graduated from the Halifax Academy with a diploma in Commercial Business. From 1939 to 1947 he served with the Royal Canadian Army. Sam joined Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company in 1947 and retired after 36 years. Married to Marjorie MacLean, together they raised seven children, Bill (Geri), Ken (Peggy, deceased), Sandy (Valerie), Celeste (Robin Johnston), Claire (Carl Crowell), Hugh (Darlene) and Norma (Gerald Zareski). He was a Charter Member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where he was on the original building committee and served on the Board of Managers for many years. As a member of the Kilted Choir, he celebrated and shared his Scottish heritage. Throughout his retirement he indulged in his passion for golf at Hartlen Point Golf Club where he was rewarded with a lifetime membership for his tireless contribution to the upkeep of the course. Dad will always be remembered for his quick wit, love of literature and a vocabulary which was second to none. Including his wife and children, he is survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and sister Jean Brodie. He was predeceased by sisters Sarah Comer, Violet Chaddock, Elizabeth Robinson, Margaret Allan and Isabel, in infancy. Cremation has taken place. No visitation, by request. There will be a private family service and interment at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Revitalizing Rehab Pool through the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
