Winchester (Small) Muriel Rhoda- passed away peacefully in her 93rd year on January 21, 2014 at Northwood Centre. Born December 30, 1920 in Rossway, Digby County she was a daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Peters) Small. On June 11, 1942 Muriel married her high school sweetheart, Paul M. Winchester in Moncton, NB, and they were together for 71 ½ years. Both Paul and Muriel had attended Digby Academy. She was a lifelong member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Before becoming ill Muriel was very active in her beloved church South End Baptist in Dartmouth, where she taught mission band for approximately 25 years. She was a volunteer for many many years at the Halifax School for the Blind. She was an extremely caring and giving person, an excellent seamstress and quilter and a lifelong knitter. She gave generously of her talents and time to many people.
Muriel is survived by her loving husband, Paul; sister, Marie Adams and brother, Larry Small both in the US; four children, Carole Foo (Doug); Paul David, Peter (Sandra) and Linda Smith (Earl); six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Norma Chenier; brothers-in-law, Steve Adams and Noel Chenier
Cremation has taken place under the care of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. There will be no service or visitation as per Muriel’s wishes. Interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of Northwood, especially the staff on the 9th floor at the Centre for their kindness and patience they showed our Mom over the past year.
