We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Michael Edward Morrisey, 61, of Halifax, on November 11th ,2024.
Michael, or Mike as his friends called him, was born on March 28, 1963 to Edward and Shirley Morrisey in St. Catharines Ontario. After Michael graduated from Prince Andrew high school in 1982, he went on to study business at the Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax.
After graduating with his degree, he started his career in management with several of the leading money security firms such as Loomis (Australia), G4S (Halifax) and retired in 2019 as the Senior Regional Vice President for Brinks Canada.
Concurrently Michael was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Militia and proudly served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers in Halifax from 1980 and retired as a Warrant Officer in 2000. Michael also served two tours of duty in Germany and was a well-respected soldier by his colleagues and officers. Michael was awarded the Canadian Decoration that he wore proudly at Remembrance Day services.
In 2002, Michael met Kimberly MacDougall in Halifax and now calls both Halifax, Nova Scotia and Sydney, Cape Breton home. Michael’s son Connor (and son to Erica Fleck) also resides in Halifax.
Michael was an avid sailor and a former boating member of the Hamilton Yacht club and later as a crewing member of Shearwater Yacht Club (Dartmouth) where he raced with his brother Andrew. Michael was a collector, especially coins and antiques, taking after his father (Edward). Michael loved Saturday dinners in Dartmouth with the family. Dinner was always followed by a competitive game of cards, with lots of laughter and cheers. Michael loved spending summers in Big Pond with his Cape Breton family, boating, golfing, pool days and family dinners.
Michael is predeceased by his father, Edward, who passed away in 2022. Michael is survived by his mother Shirley, Aunt Frances, and the “loves of his life”, Kim and Connor. Michael is also survived by his older brother Andrew and his wife Janine Stirling, younger sister Ruth Ann and her husband Stacey Kuhn, along with nieces Jenna Tibert (husband Jason), Danielle Morrisey (partner Jordan), Lindsey and Mackenzie Kuhn. Michael also has two “great” nephew’s Liam Tibert and Levi Trebinski. And how can we not mention the cats, who are also feeling very lost without Michael.
Michael’s extended Cape Breton family of Marie, Dave, Dan, Katie, Krista, Leanne, Daniel, Alicia, Jeffery, Mark and the big and little kiddos, Mitchell, Alexa, Julia, Olivia, Colin and Levi. As well as Lynne, Natalie, Seamus, Fiona and Moragh.
Visitation Services will be held at Mattatall’s Funeral home at 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth on November 15th at 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church at 9 Veterans Ave, Dartmouth on November 16th at 11am. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation in memory of Michael.
