Marie Anita (McIntyre) Alward of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia passed away surrounded by family on November 30, 2011 at the age of 75. Born in Chatham, NB, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Catherine McIntyre. Marie is survived by her loving husband Ernie Alward, her four daughters; Linda (Tom) Sancton, Cathy (Alan) Smith, Kelly (Dale Stuart) Anderson all of HRM, and Diana Alward of Nashville, Tennessee, son Brian (Darlene) Alward of New Glasgow. Grandchildren include: Patrick MacLean, Christopher MacLean, Jennifer Smith, Amy Smith, Crissy Robbins, Brandon Alward, Ashley Stuart, Justin Stuart, Scott Sancton, Keith Sancton and Alex Sancton along with nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers; Sonny (Susan) of Miramichi NB, Keith (Louise) of Guelph, Ontario and Brian (Claudine) of Miramichi NB and two sisters Gail Blais and Joanne McIntyre both of Miramichi, NB. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Gary and Ralph and sister Kathy. Marie was a loving mother, daughter, wife and friend. She was an avid curler and long time member and employee of the Dartmouth Curling Club. Later in life she took up golf to complement her wintertime activities. Marie and Ernie also volunteered by working with the Little Rocks program and coaching a junior curling team for a number of years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed her social outings with the girls. Her long time friend Veronica “Scottie” Arthur and the Shoreline Swingers gang in Madeira Beach will dearly miss her. The family would like to thank the staff at the Melville Lodge for their professionalism and kindness during the last year. Visitation will be held Sunday December 4, 2011 between 2-4pm and 6-8pm at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street Dartmouth. Funeral Service will be held Monday December 5, 2011 at 10:00am at Pope John XXIII Church, 35 Colby Drive, Cole Harbour. Father Irek Bem officiating. A private internment will follow at the Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
