Margaret passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Glasgow Hall, Parkland at the Lakes. Born on August 10, 1931, she was a life-long resident of Dartmouth.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was pre-deceased by her parents Clyde Sr., and Mary Elma (Fulton) Teasdale, her brothers Gordon (Doris Dyke), Clyde (Shirley Forbes) and Donald (Barbara Westcott), sister Muriel MacLeod (Carl), and nieces Nancy Duplain and Joan Miller. She is survived by her sister-in-law Virginia Teasdale, nieces Patricia Teasdale, Brenda Sheppard, Anne Teasdale, Marilyn Boyd and Laura teBogt, and nephew Gary Teasdale, great-nieces, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Margaret graduated from both the Halifax Ladies College and Halifax Vocational School, earning a secretarial diploma. She worked in various secretarial positions over her 40+-year career, including an accounting firm, a dental clinic, Volvo Canada, and her longest serving role as Sales Secretary at CFDR/Q104. She made many good friends at the radio station, from where she retired after 25 years of service. She followed the careers of some of the radio announcers as they went on to broadcast at Seaside FM and was a loyal listener.
Always a community-minded person, Margaret was a Life Member of the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary and a Life Member of the Nova Scotia Association of Health Auxiliaries. She was an active 25-year member of the Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club, enjoying the competition and fellowship. Sister Margaret was proud to be a Charter Member of the Queen Esther Chapter No. 61, the Order of the Eastern Star, achieving 60+ years of membership and being honoured as a Life Member in 2016.
From an early age Margaret loved to play the piano and sing. Combining her love of music with her strong faith, she was a long-time member of the St. James United Church Choir, and the Carillon Choir (Handbell Choir). She was a Life Member of the Annetta Rose U.C.W. In all of these groups she enjoyed performing and socializing, often reminiscing about the Carillon Choir’s trip to Bermuda. Music remained a favorite pastime for the rest of her life.
Margaret made many lasting friendships, among them Audrey Forsythe, who always made sure she was celebrated with a special tea and her delicious homemade cake. In retirement Margaret enjoyed travelling around Nova Scotia, the New England States, and to Florida with her close friend, Shirley Moir.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Visitation will take place at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 4th from 4-6 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 5th at 11 a.m. in St. James United Church, 181 Portland Street, Dartmouth, Rev. Catherine MacDonald officiating. Reception will follow in the Church Hall. Burial will follow reception at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main Street, Dartmouth.
