Born in Inverness to JB and Martha (MacLellan) MacDougall, Malcolm was a man who will be dearly missed.
Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sheila (Bennet), and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Nanci-Lynn (Lawrence Deveaux), Dartmouth NS, and Jennifer (Wayne MacDonald), Halifax, NS. The precious joys of his life were his three granddaughters, Ava Deveaux, and Sarah and Caelin MacDonald. He is also survived by his sister Isabelle (Ken) Fernie, Calgary, AB, Harold MacDougall, Parksville, BC and Joe (Sheila), Inverness, NS, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Malcolm was predeceased by his parents JB and Martha (MacLellan) MacDougall, brother and sister in law, John and Anne (Donovan) MacDougall, brother Lauchie MacDougall, sister in law Janet MacDougall, niece Debbie MacDougall and nephew Andrew MacDougall.
Malcolm spread joy wherever he lived, worked and played. A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University with his Education Degree, he then moved to Toronto where he met his beloved Sheila and started his career at Bell Canada. Being the man he was, he always made friends and to this day still has those forever friends in the Toronto area. Being a true Cape Bretoner at heart, Malcolm, Sheila and the girls made sure to get to Inverness during the summer time, always being there for the Inverness Gathering. His family and friends all loved it when “Malkie Doo” arrived on Hillcrest Street. In 1986, an opportunity presented itself at MT&T, and Malcolm and Sheila made the move back to Nova Scotia, where they made Cole Harbour their home.
Malcolm, a long standing ball player and fan of the game, joined the Colby Village Gentlemans Slowpitch League in 1987. He was a member of the Keith’s team and throughout his 30 years of playing ball he made longtime friendships and made a ball family of brothers for life. The games, parties and golf tournaments were like no other and those who accompanied him, will never forget his jokes, storytelling and charismatic nature.
Malcolm opened his heart and his home to anyone who stopped by. You were always greeted with a “How ya doing?” and “What can I get you to drink?”. The hospitality that he showed to all will always be felt. Although Malcolm is not longer with us, his spirit and love of life and love for his family will be forever with us.
Donations may be made to Oceanview Continuing Care Centre in Eastern Passage. In lieu of today’s events, a celebration of Malclom’s life (A Good Ol’ Party) will be held at a later date.
