John Kenneth Thomas

Thomas, J. Kenneth- of Dartmouth, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Melville Lodge surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late John and Fanny Thomas. Ken grew up on the family farm in North Middleboro. He was a loving spouse, father, grandfather and friend. Ken was very active in the early life of the Eastern Passage Baptist Church where he made numerous life long friends. Prior to that he was a member of First Baptist Dartmouth where he raised his family and enjoyed the fellowship of the church. Ken served as the Secretary of the Trustees of the Cole Harbour School Board for many years. He was also a Scout leader at the United Church in Cole Harbour for many years. Ken worked at the Amherst airplane factory during the war. He then moved to Dartmouth to become the Assistant Manager at the County Home Hospital. Following his years of service there, he worked for Clayton Developments during the building of Colby Village. Ken’s love of the outdoors and sport led him on many hiking trips through the back woods of Cole Harbour with a group of kids following close behind. Ken was a resourceful man, always able to fix things and willing to lend a hand wherever needed. He (Buppy) will be missed by his family and friends and those memories of time spent together will be cherished. Ken is survived by his wife Marion (Wright), sons Phyllip (Nancy) and Stan (Ginny), son-in-law Perry (Bonnie); grandchildren Melissa, Jason, Kayla, Mark, Sarah, Josh; great grandchild Kierra. He was predeceased by his wife Ardythe (Lutz); brothers Harvey and Sherman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3 from 2-4 and 6-8 at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Memorial service will be held on Monday, April 4 at 11 a.m. in Eastern Passage Baptist Church, Pastor James MacArthur officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only.
