PYE, Jean “Ted” Donaldson (née Horne) - February 13, 1924 - January 7, 2022 It is with profound sadness that the family of Jean (Ted) Pye wish to share the news of her passing. Predeceased by her parents Edith and Alfred Horne, her husband Douglas, brother Everett, sisters Eileen (Babe) and Cora. Remembering Ted in this time of grief are her son Graham (Barb), grandson Geoff, granddaughter Andrea (Kevin) and great grandsons Will and Cooper. Ted also leaves to mourn the extended families of her brother, her sisters and many many friends. Jean or “Ted” as her extended family and close friends knew her, could trace her Nova Scotia roots back to the Battle of the Plains of Abraham when General Wolfe awarded Jacob Horne a plot of land in Eastern Passage. The family narrative that he and his wife snowshoed their way from Quebec to Nova Scotia is a testament to the strong genetic heritage that Ted was born into and certainly contributed to her long healthy life. Ted’s love for Nova Scotia, “ the best place in the world” was well known. Born at home, the youngest of four, attending secretarial school, getting married and working her entire life in Dartmouth, she never had a desire to leave. Ted married Douglas Pye in 1947, together they had one son, Graham. Doug being a Navy man was often away on maneuvers for months at a time, leaving her to raise Graham, not an easy feat in the 1950’s. She raised him well, he became a successful member of the oil and gas industry in Calgary. Ted was a lifelong devout member of Christs Church. She was also an active member of many other groups and activities throughout her life. She had many fun stories from her numerous bridge clubs, the Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club and her Candlepin Bowling League all of which she was still remembering and retelling to her family right up until her sudden passing. Ted knew almost everyone in Dartmouth or she knew their parents, their grandparents and later all their children. When she still had her sight and was able to go out into the community there was never a time when someone did not stop to say hello. Jean was a very career oriented woman. Her most memorable time in the workplace was at Nova Scotia Hospital, where she spent many years working in the social services department with a group of women that would become lifelong friends. She had a habit of making life long friends, outliving most of them. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Glasglow Hall for always treating Jean with respect, kindness, and loving care. Letting her have cheerios for dinner as one of her last meals is something her family will remember forever. The family would also like to send their deepest heartfelt thank you to Mavis McKenzie, who after losing her own mother became Jean’s regular Thursday visitor, confidant, shopper, chauffeur and most importantly, a treasured friend. Arrangements for cremation will be made by Mattatalls. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:30pm on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 in Christ Anglican Church Hall when friends and family can gather safely. God Speed Mum.
