MacConnachie (Teasdale), Janet Louise – 65, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 26, 2011 surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Eric and June Teasdale. Janet will be truly missed as she was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring Grammy, and loyal friend. Her grace, strength, and courage defined her character. Janet was a graduate of both Dalhousie University and Acadia University. After graduation, Janet enjoyed a career as a compassionate elementary school teacher for over 30 years, enriching the lives of many along the way. During her lifetime, Janet was actively involved in many organizations including, the St. James Carillon Handbell Choir and the Canadian Federation of University Women. Over the years, she was a member of St. James United Church, Dartmouth. Her passions included spending time with her family, travelling with friends, and tending to her gardens. She enjoyed many wonderful summers with family and friends at her cottage on Lowden’s Beach, Pictou. She was a strong, unforgettable woman who could light up any room with her infectious smile, and will be dearly missed. Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her brother, Philip Teasdale. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Ian F. MacConnachie; daughter Kate (Michael) Cummings; son David (Katie) MacConnachie; daughter Jane (Mike) Selig; grandchildren Jack and Sophie (Cummings); Mattie and Drew (Selig); and Ben (MacConnachie); sisters-in-law, Anne Edmonds and Mary MacConnachie; as well as six nieces and nephews. Donations in her memory may be made to St. James United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4-6 pm at Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at St. James United Church on Thursday, June 30, at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow at Mattatall Funeral Home.
