James "Rex" Burgess

James Rex Burgess - Halifax, passed away on Saturday, September 24 at the age of 87. He was the son of James Burgess and Dorothy (Snow) Burgess. He owned and operated numerous businesses throughout his life including Briarwood Golf Course, The Kettle of Fish and Rex Burgess Construction and Supplies. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including backwoods hiking and fishing. He will be missed by his sons, Barry Rex Burgess, Halifax, Christopher George Burgess, Vermont and his Christopher’s wife Mary, and their children David and Sarah. He is also survived by his brother Briant Burgess, his sister Beverly Hickson, his nephews Brian Abelson, James Burgess and Luke Hickson and nieces Betty Mainprize, Wendy Abelson, Angela Burgess, Laura King, Jocelyn Cousineau and Christine Ellis. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Edna (Heard) Burgess, his brothers Duane Burgess and Glen Burgess, and his sisters Irma Abelson and Eileen Burgess and his nephew Gary Abelson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 29 at Stairs Memorial Church, 44 Hester Street, Dartmouth, Rev. Sarah Raeburn officiating. Burial in Mount Hermon Cemetery, 139 Victoria Road, Dartmouth and a reception at Stairs Memorial Church will take place following the service.
