It is with profound sadness that we announce that Harry Roland Hartlin passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025 at the age of 92. Harry was born on 2 October 1932 in Jeddore, Nova Scotia to Roland and Elizabeth (Paul) Hartlin.
Harry was a dedicated husband to Winnie - his darling wife of 72 years. Harry leaves behind his daughter Yvonne; sons Tony (Stacey), and Paul (Doreen) and daughter Judy, grandchildren Michael, Erin, Matthew, Skye, Breagh, Kara, and Cassie and great grandchildren Josh, Brandon, Kayla and Levi. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Harry is predeceased by his loving wife Florence Winnifred Pitcher (Winnie), his parents (Roland and Elizabeth), brothers Bill and Peter, sister Elizabeth, children Matthew and James, daughter-in-law Karen and son-in-law Louis.
Harry was a hardworking man who always put family first. In 1952 Harry joined the RCMP where he proudly served with dedication and distinction in the Marine division. When the Marine division was decommissioned in 1974 Harry chose to leave the RCMP rather than be posted away from his family and ancestral home in Jeddore. His next career move took him to the Dartmouth School Board where he worked as a custodian for close to 20 years. He retired in 1992 and moved to his beloved Jeddore.
Harry was known for his quick wit, keen curiosity and unwavering kindness. Although he didn’t have much formal education, he was a very quick study and became known as a jack of all trades to family and friends. His guiding principles were to always read the instructions, measure three times/cut once and if you want something done right, do it yourself. He had too many passions to name them all here, chief among them being cooking, cars, RVs, NEWS-NEWS-NEWS, all things nature and home renovations.
Harry’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
The family would like to thank Dr Chris Ozere and the Staff at Parkland on the Lakes for the wonderful care and compassion given to Harry in his final days.
Cremation has been entrusted to A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth NS. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice.
