Freda Ruth Matheson

Born in Parrsboro she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Annie (Atkinson) Henwood. She will be sadly missed by friends Betty and Mark Shrum and Bill Parker; sisters Margaret Pettigrew, Parrsboro, NS, Doris Henwood, Amherst, NS, Shirley Robichau, Peabody, Mass.; brothers, Merlin, Texas, USA, Kenneth, Toronto, ON; step children, Andrea Grandy (Frank), Paul Matheson, Dartmouth, Carl Matheson, Ileen Axworthy, PEI; as well as several step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Small and second husband Vincent Matheson; sisters Rhoda Lovelace, Grace Newman; brothers, Gerald, Harold and Earl.

In her younger years she was a long time employee at Simpson’s in Halifax. Freda was an honorary member of the Campbell’s Cole Harbour Senior Citizens Club. She was also a member of the Canadian Kennel Club and belonged to the Atlantic Beagle Club in Shad Bay. Freda and her husband Vincent operated Harmony Kennel in Upper Lawrencetown where they bred and raised champion beagles and won many trophies at various Beagle Field Trials.

There will be no visitation by request. A graveside service will be held 11am Wednesday December 5 at the Lawrencetown Cemetery.
