It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of father, brother, grandfather, and uncle Frank Stanley Boyd Jr. B.A., M.A., B.J., of Halifax, NS. Frank was born on December 23, 1943 . He passed away very peacefully October 3, 2010 at VG. Hospital. Frank led a full and productive life. He was a well known humorist, researcher, journalist, sociologist and creative writer. He held positions as director of the Black Cultural Center, employment counselor for Canada Employment and Immigration, social worker for the City of Dartmouth, training officer for the Canadian Human Rights Commission, a frequent lecturer at Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s and Kings College, and a field Director for Black United Front of Nova Scotia. He was also the support group leader for Multiple Myeloma Canada and a member of the Maritime Arabian Horse Association. After being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, he fought selflessly to gain funding for the use of Revlimid in Nova Scotia hospitals. With the aid of W5 and enormous self sacrifice the drug is now approved for all cancer patients. As an author Frank wrote “McKerrow” which can be found in the Queen’s Library and Prime Minister of Canada’s library. He was presently working on another book called “Bone Pain”, to chronicle his battle with cancer.

Chief
They tell me that my brother is passing from this world into the next
I know that soon he will no longer be here with us and I remember the boy
The boy who played game with me and teased me into tears of joy
The one who protected us for the neighborhood bullies.
I remember the one, who tried to be everything to all the family,
Who wanted to be the perfect son, the perfect brother and protector measures he always thought he fell short. I remember the time he realized that he could not do that on his own. Nor could he could not ask his other brothers for help with that task because it would mean that he failed. Always reminded that he was the leader he had to show the others the way.
But to me and most all of us he was the Chief and always would be, the one we could rely on, the one to see us through.
You couldn’t at a young age tell the Chief that he didn’t disappoint us; that he did see us through. He thought at times he failed us, and failed himself too.
The perfect son, the perfect brother and the perfect man, long before his time,
First he had to be a boy, he had to have some fun; and then learn to be the man, not perfect, but the man he could become.
Love Allie
