Walker, Donald Louis - of Dartmouth, passed away on March 29, 2015 in Camp Hill Veteran's Memorial Building, QEII Halifax. Born in 1923 in Dartmouth, he was the son of the late Louis and Daisy Walker. Don attended Maritime Business School and then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1941 at the age of 18. He served duty overseas during the Second World War. After returning from active service, Don along with his best friend and brother Phillip, and their father Louis, operated The Peoples Hardware on Portland St. in Dartmouth until 1986. He was a member of the Masonic Wentworth Lodge for 60 plus years. Don married Eleanor Bayer in 1948 and raised their family in Dartmouth. Don spent many years at his summer home in Hackett’s Cove where he had happy times with friends and family, while enjoying the beauty of St. Margaret's Bay. He was a very kind, patient and understanding son, father, and husband, whose sense of humor brought enjoyment to many. He is survived by his two daughters Janet Melbourne (Terry), Calgary Alberta, Shelagh LeBlanc (Gordon), Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and 4 grandchildren: Matthew, Thomas, Kathryn and Patrick. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Henderson, Orillia, Ontario and his friend Shirley Williston, Windsor. Don was predeceased by his wife Eleanor Bayer and his brother Phillip. To help researchers better understand the causes of dementia and stroke, Don has donated his brain tissue to the Maritime Brain Tissue Bank. A Celebration of Life and reception will be held 2 pm on Friday, August 21, 2015 in Christ Church, 50 Wentworth St., Dartmouth with Rev. Jane Clattenburg and Rev Bruce Murray officiating.
