KANE, Donald S. - 79 of Dartmouth, passed away the morning of Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Ocean View Continuing Care, Eastern Passage. Born in Halifax he was son of the late James “Frank” and Jean (Banfield) Kane. Don left school at a young age, to help support his mother and siblings. He studied to be a Machinist, and completed his apprenticeship at the Halifax Shipyards. He worked full time at the Texaco refinery in Eastern Passage, for over 25 years. He met a lot of great friends in his life through school, hockey, work, etc. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending his retired life growing and tending to his vegetable garden, lawns, hedges and the swimming pool. He loved fishing, playing ice hockey, and loved to watch sports. Especially the Bruins and the Red Sox! He was especially proud of his grandson, Jarrett being a baseball player, and would often come to his games when he could, and called him his "slugger". He is survived by his son Christopher Kane (Wendy) Calgary, and his devoted daughter Joni Kane Dartmouth, Brothers, Stewart (Shirley) Dartmouth, Jim (Diana) Kentville, John (Audrey) Dartmouth, Mike (Pearl) Dartmouth, sisters, Sheila LeBlanc Dartmouth, Jean (Tom Hoskins) Dartmouth, Vickie (John Levandier) Moncton. Grandchildren, Dawn Marie, Jenna, Courtney, Jarrett, Tanner and Liam, one great grandchild, Ellie Mae. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years Gloria (Butler). He will be truly missed by all, especially Joni & Jarrett. Service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday in A. L. Mattatall Funeral home at 217 Portland St. in Dartmouth followed by a reception. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
