Hughes, Delilah Mae, RN – 85 of Dartmouth, passed away on December 9, 2012 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Stellarton, Pictou County, on August 26, 1927. She was the only child of the late Philip and Christina (Fortune) Hartling. Delilah was educated in Stellarton School system and then attended the Aberdeen School of Nursing, graduating from the class of 1949. Delilah started her Nursing Career of 35 years, at the Nova Scotia Hospital in 1952 and at the time of her retirement was an Administrative Supervisor. While working she continued to keep her knowledge current, completing the Post Graduate Course in Psychiatric Nursing as well as Nursing Unit Administration Course. She had a great respect for the CNA’s and Orderlies she worked with, the patients, and that respect was returned to her. Mom will be remembered for her wisdom, wit, her kindness and the delicious baked goods. She was artistic, a gifted sewer and loved to sing. She enjoyed gardening, especially at the cottage in Lower Economy, where cherished friendships were made. She was a member of the Aberdeen Hospital Alumni Association. In 2008 she was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the VON. Delilah is survived by her only child Pamela Lynn Hughes, Dartmouth; cousins Edith Fortune, Margaret Poole, Dolly Kirwin and Sonny MacDonald. She was predeceased by her husband, David. Cremation has taken place. At Delilah’s request there will be no service. The interment will take place at Heritage Oak Columbarium and Memorial Garden, 52 Wentworth Street.
