HOPE, David - passed on October 22, 2017 in Halifax Infirmary. He had a rich family life. He is survived by his wife Rosaire Patrice (nee Macleod), daughters Irene Leblanc (m. Daniel), Ruth MacDonald (m. Malcolm), Tyna Hope (m. Michael Boudreau) and sons John Hope (m. Katherine) and David Hope (m. Rebecca). He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Mary (nee Archer) (1929-1970) and his second wife Violet May (nee Kent) (1948-2000) and his daughter Diane (1961-1996). Through his marriage to Patrice, his extended family included his step-children David (m. Kim), Melinda (m. David), Wade (m. Karey) and Clinton (m. Sherry). He leaves behind grandchildren and great grandchildren. Born in Edinburgh to Ruth and John Hope and raised in Broxburn Scotland; he immigrated to Canada in 1953. His career starting in the shipyard drafting offices and, through experience and obtaining his B.Comm degree (1978), he finished his career as a project manager and marine engineer. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. As a young man, David loved to golf and he continued to follow the sport long after he stopped playing. He had a beautiful singing voice, participating in the Cammac 50th Anniversary Chorus, the Kilted Choir, the Dartmouth Men’s, church choirs and sang in the Nova Scotia Tattoo. David was a watercolor painter, painting at DSSC. He loved to travel, particularly enjoyed cruises in his later years. He loved dogs, especially bull terriers. He enjoyed fishing. Many thanks to the wonderful support from the VON, Dartmouth General Hospital Dialysis unit, Dr. Lee and staff at the Halifax Infirmary Unit 4.1, Dr. John Banks, and all of the community support that helped him stay at home until just days before his passing. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice. David Hope’s life will be celebrated on Thursday October 26, at 2 pm, in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on School Street in Dartmouth.
