Corinne Anne MacDonald

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 33 years, Glen; children: Kelsey (Rory) and Cameron (Katie); parents: Frank and Carolyn Jones; sisters: Angela (Ron) Blinkhorn and Tracey (Craig) Raume; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her grandparents: David and Louise Jones; Kitchener and Ida Harnish.

A proud Cape Bretoner, Corinne was brilliant, funny, brave, and kind. A wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, best friend, neighbour, engineer, teacher, traveler, beer drinker, pilot, sailor, DJ, ABBA enthusiast, party host, dancing queen, trivia master, and so much more. As Queen of the "Portland Hooders", Corinne was key in orchestrating many street parties and always threw the best Halloween and St. Patrick's Day parties for all to attend (costumes mandatory).

She was incredibly determined in all aspects of her life. As an Industrial Engineer, Corinne dedicated her career to the advancement of women in the industry. She graduated from Saint Mary’s University in '86, and then went on to continue her studies at TUNS graduating in '89. Many of Corinne’s classmates became her life-long friends. She moved to Toronto where she worked at P&G and added IT to her resume. Returning to NS, she began teaching at Dalhousie University and became the first woman to receive her doctorate from the Industrial Engineering department in 2007. During her tenure as a professor and eventually Department Head, she mentored many students to great success. In 2009, alongside Eldon Gunn and Andrea Cameron, she was awarded the Practice Prize from the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) for their work, entitled, “Improving Production and Inventory Planning for Scotsburn Ice Cream.” Her faculty would describe her as the “organizational backbone” of the department who loved a budget. If there was someone else’s money to spend, Corinne was on it, and she always knew how to plan an amazing conference! This year she was recognized by Engineers Nova Scotia and awarded the S.L. Devereaux Award for the Advancement of Women in Engineering.

Corinne was also an adventurer and explorer and was always planning her next trip with her husband and best friend, Glen. Together they traversed over 42 countries and drank beer in every place they visited (and even bathed in it!). She loved to experience and learn about new cultures and was always scouting out the “non-touristy” locales in every place she visited. She loved to collect the flags of every place she'd ever been to.

Those who knew Corinne would describe her as fearless with a passion for life. Whatever course she set for herself, she conquered. She was a warrior. During the last 10 years of her life, she battled ovarian cancer and defied all odds. Corinne never let her diagnoses define her and instead was motivated even more to experience her life to the fullest. With Glen devotedly at her side, she had many full years with friends, family, and neighbours.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
