Bernice Frances Corkum, née Carey, lost her battle with cancer after three and a half years on July 21, 2023. Bernice was born on May 3, 1946 in New Ross, Nova Scotia. She graduated from commercial school and worked in the Bridgewater office of Maritime Tel and Tel for many years before staying at home to raise her family. She was an avid genealogist, spending many years tracing the Corkum family tree. Later in life, Bernice discovered a passion and talent for painting; many of her pictures are proudly hung in the homes of family and friends.
Bernice is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert; daughters: Krista (Odin Ortiz), Kelley (John (Alex) Robinson); grandchildren: Nicolas, Jordan (Grayson Jackson), Caleb (Mackenzie, née Harold), Simon, Kayla, Madelyn; great-grandchildren: Talia and Gilian.
Bernice came from a large family and is also survived by three brothers: Glenn (Bernadette), Robert, and Wendell (Bunny) and five sisters: Joan (Waldon Banks), Linda, Valerie, Bonnah, and Debra; brother-in-law: Bruce Corkum (Judy, née Purdy).
She was predeceased by her father, Howard Carey; mother, Frances Carey (née Turner), and brothers, Wayne and LaVerne; sisters-in-law: Brigid and Gail; brother-in-law: Bill.
Bernice will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
