BARKER, Avard Ronald – November 1, 1934- April 14, 2022. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Avard Ronald Barker, of Cole Harbour, the son of Ronald and Edith (Cleary) Barker. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Pearl (Finlay) Barker. He is survived by his three children; Lynn, Ron (Deb). Saundra (Wayne), grandson; Avard (Danielle) and great grandchildren; A. J., April and Brooklyn; sisters; Iona, Donna (Doug), Wendy (Garnet) and families, Sister in-laws; Shirley Sampson, Nora Finlay and many nieces and nephews. Avard was a carpenter building houses in Dartmouth before joining the military in 1960. Ave enjoyed a successful career spanning 33 years that took his family across the country as well as two tours in Europe. Ave learned to enjoy bowling with his parents and it remained a lifelong passion. He also enjoyed hunting at his buddy's cabin in Chester. Avard resided at Parkland at the Lakes, Baker Drive, for the last three years enjoying the care and attention of the loving staff. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday, April 21, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home with a Memorial Service at 11 am Friday, April 22, in St. Alban’s Anglican Church. Rev. Marian Lucas-Jeffries officiating with a reception to follow in the church hall.
