Warner C. Goulart, age 76, of North Dartmouth died Thursday, June 5, 2014 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Joan (DeSouza) Goulart with whom he celebrated 24 years of marriage on February 17, 2014.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Charles Goulart and Otilia (Santos) Goulart, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life before moving to Dartmouth 19 years ago.
Mr. Goulart graduated from New Bedford High School, Class of 1955. He was a United States Marine Corp Veteran having served aboard the USS Enterprise as an Aircraft Jet Engine Mechanic during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Guantanamo Bay.
A tractor trailer driver, he worked for United Parcel Service at the North Dartmouth terminal for 38 years eventually becoming a Steward of the Feeder Drivers before retiring in 1998. He received numerous awards for his service to UPS, including induction into the Circle of Honor for driving over thirty-five years with no accidents and for driving 40 times around the world. He was also recording Secretary for the Teamsters Local #59 for many years, including the period when it was headed by Jimmy Hoffa.
Warner was the owner of the Ward 5 Club at 266 Dartmouth Street in New Bedford for over 25 years. The Ward 5 was famous for its champion award winning Baseball Team. He was also a longtime member of the Portuguese American Social Club of Dartmouth for over 25 years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed feeding all species of birds. He loved gardening and kept a greenhouse year round in which he grew many plants, herbs and delicate orchards.
In addition to his wife he leaves: Daughters Karin Reynolds of New Bedford, Kristin E. Reynolds of Acushnet and Robin O. Goulart of New Bedford. Children through marriage: Joseph S. Luiz, IV and his fiancé Judy Machado of Dartmouth, Jane Luiz Elsner of Bridgewater and Judy Luiz Coventry and her husband, Andy of Mesa, AZ. Brother Jeritt Goulart of Dartmouth. Grandchildren: Sean James and Jack Robert Reynolds, Stella Otilia Dubois, Kristie Luiz-LaBerge, Joseph S. Luiz V and Jonathan D. Luiz, Joshua Borba and his wife Devonie, and Jennah Rioux and her husband Dillon. Great-Grandchildren: Josiah Borba and Brayden Rioux. Special Niece Torey Steele of Dartmouth.
His Funeral will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 10:00 am in the WARING-SULLIVAN Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends invited.
