Mary Beth was born in Brockton in 1950 to Patrick Joseph Murphy and Margaret Murphy. She graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School and Aquinas Junior College, and worked as a medical secretary at Brockton Hospital, New England Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Hospital.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Owen H. Murphy, Jr., and her son, Owen J. Murphy and his fiancé Alysia Sanchez. She was the sister of William Murphy and his wife Elaine of Bridgewater, Kathleen Mathews of Brockton and Wareham, and Margaret Simmons and her husband Daryl of East Bridgewater, and aunt to numerous nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Murphy of Easton, brother-in-law Richard Mathews of Brockton, and niece Terri (Mathews) Bryan of Brockton.
We wish to thank St. Luke’s Hospital and Sacred Heart Home for their compassion extended to the family and Agnes Canastra for all she did in support of Mary Beth and our family over the last few years.
To know Mary Beth was to know that she was special. She was never stingy with a favor, a $20 bill, or a joke. She made every holiday and birthday a lifetime event. She wrote incredible poems. She was a second mother to many of her son’s friends. She was the most giving and loving person that ever lived.
In lieu of flowers in Mary Beth’s memory, donations may be made to the Humane Society, Faxon Animal Shelter, 474 Durfee St., Fall River, and Sacred Heart Home, 359 Summer St., New Bedford.
