Jose Honorato Reis, age 84, of Dartmouth, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Julietta Miguel (Senra) Reis who died on December 9, 2014 and with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage this past July.
Jose was born and raised in Joao Bom Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Manuel Egidio dos Reis and Maria dos Santos Reis. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and settled in Dartmouth where he lived for many years.
Mr. Reis was a talented carpenter and master craftsman who took great pride in his work. He enjoyed fishing, loved horses and was an excellent wood carver who built exquisite horse carriages for the horses he loved during his retirement in the Azores. He cherished the company of his family and friends both here and in Sao Miguel, Azores.
His family includes a son, Edward George Reis and his wife Cynthia of Dartmouth; two daughters, Natalie Reis Medeiros and her husband Louie of Dartmouth and Diane Marie Veziroglu and her husband Mustafa of Monte Sereno, CA; two grandchildren, Bren and Eren Veziroglu; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George E. Reis, Cecilia Reis Senra and Americo dos Reis.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 8:45am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., with a Funeral Mass at 9:45am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4-8pm.
