Cynthia P. (Johnson) Paine, “Cindy,” age 83, of Dartmouth, passed away, Friday February 10, 2012 in Hathaway Manor. She was the wife of Rufus S. Paine Jr. to whom she has been married for the past 64 years.
Born in Berlin, New Hampshire, a daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Olsen) Johnson, she had been a resident of Dartmouth for over 60 years.
She was a graduate of Howe High School in Billerica, class of 1946. In addition to being a homemaker, she was an avid knitter and worked at Robin’s Nest Yarn Store in Fairhaven where she taught knitting and continued to teach knitting in her home.
A longtime member of the Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church, she was a deaconess and a Sunday school teacher. She was also the founding member and past president of Tri Delta at the church. She was a rainbow girl and a past member of the Eastern Star Cortez Allen Chapter in Westport. She enjoyed cooking, cruising, traveling, skiing, and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she is survived by one daughter; Alison R. Grinwis and her husband Robert of Kennett Square, PA, one son; Erik M.J. Paine and his wife Vicki Saint-Paine of Dartmouth, one brother; Warren Johnson of Gorham, NH, son-in-law; Martin E. Pierce, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and surrogate mother to Susan Bolton of Cincinnati, OH. She was mother of the late Alan W. Paine and Linda L. Pierce.
Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 10:00AM in Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church 11 Anderson Way, Dartmouth. Visiting hours Monday from 5:00 to 8:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd. Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers contributions in her honor may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association 72 East Concord St., Boston, MA 02118. Burial private.
