Virginia (Ginny) Viola Willis Beck, 94, of 17 Nabby Road, Brookfield, CT passed peacefully into eternal peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family. The eldest of seven children, Ginny was born in Brookfield on November 7, 1927 to Chester and Barbara (Couchevitz) Willis. Ginny graduated from Danbury High School in 1945 and went on to attend Becker Junior College, Class of ‘47 in Worcester, MA. Meeting on a blind date, Ginny met the love of her life, John N. Beck of Danbury and they married in June, 1953. After living in Danbury for eight years they moved to Brookfield in 1961. While her children were young, Ginny was a stay-at-home mom until 1972 when she began her retail career, working for Caldor as a sales associate. In what started out as a part-time position, she ended up staying for 20 years retiring in 1992!
A life-long active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal/Anglican Church in Brookfield, Ginny headed up the Healing Prayer Ministry for many years and was also part of the Prayer Chain. She was a firm believer in the power of prayer and would devote much of her time to praying for others. She would also visit some of the elderly, shut-in parishioners of the parish to spread the good news. Ginny was a good and faithful servant of the Lord and she loved to share her faith with others. She loved to learn and participated in various Bible studies and home groups over the years. Later in life, she enjoyed word searches; chances are you could find Ginny sitting at her kitchen table working on one of her word search puzzles.
One of Ginny’s favorite hobbies was bird watching. She learned their specific calls and sounds. She enjoyed studying all the birds that would gather at the 5 bird feeders outside of her picture window. Another hobby she loved was astronomy. She would go outside at night with a star guidebook and a flashlight with her kids in tow and identify the visible stars and constellations. Ginny was skilled at crocheting and made some wonderful afghans over the years. For 30+ years, Ginny loved vacationing with her family annually to the coast of Maine in the Wells/Ogunquit area. She enjoyed walking on the Marginal Way and getting lemonade with mint at Barnacle Billy’s in Perkins Cove! It was the simple things in life that brought her joy.
Ginny was predeceased by her husband John of 45 years. A caring, devoted, and loving mother and grandmother, Ginny is survived by her three children. James (Sheila) Beck of Wilton, John (Beth) Beck of Brookfield, and a daughter, Maria Beck of Brookfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jimmy, Michael, Stephen and Matthew Beck, Amy Beck (fiancé Bill Ripley) and Ashley Beck; and her step-grandchildren Julie Hurgin and Jason Gilbertie. Ginny is survived by her sister Faye Ballard of New Milford, several nieces and nephews, close family friend, Steven Hemming of Worcester, MA as well as her caregiver of six years, Georgina Rockson of Brooklyn, NY.
