Thomas Fortunato Sr., age 101, of Bethel, Connecticut passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020, at Danbury Hospital. Thomas was born March 17, 1918 in New York City, the son of the late Charles and Carmela Fortunato. He served in the U.S. Army during WWll. He was the owner of a floral shop in the Bronx, a restaurant in Pelham, NY and the Greenlight Restaurant in New Fairfield, CT. Thomas was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer with the fire department in Pelham, NY.
As an avid baseball fan he enjoyed watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees. He was pre-deceased by his wife Francesca Fischetti. He is survived by his two sons Thomas Fortunato Jr, and his wife Patricia and Ronald Fortunato, and his daughter Diana Fortunato. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Ed, Cindy, Mark, Jimmy, Diana, Gina, and Natalie and eleven great-grandchildren; Gabriella, Eddie, Marissa, Marina, Andrew, Jeffrey, Brieanna, Mark Jr, Kristina, Aaron and Anthony, along with three great-great grandchildren; Lilliana, Dennison, and Giovanni and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was pre-deceased by his son Robert Fortunato, granddaughter Christine Lynn Pinder, along with four sisters; Catherine, Lena, Millie and Nancy and his brother Charlie.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 9:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Rd, Bethel, on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Avenue Ext., Danbury.
