Sheila Barrett, age 60 of Bethel, passed away on Monday at the Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family following a long battle with cancer. She was the high school sweetheart and loving wife to Peter J. Barrett for 38 years.
Sheila was born June 12, 1952 in Ossining, NY the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Julia (Spillane) McCarthy. She was a graduate of Immaculate High School, Class of 1970, and Western CT State University where she was one of the first women to graduate from their Business Administration Program.
Sheila was employed for over 38 years with the Amphenol Corporation, working as a quality control engineer. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Mary Church, Bethel, and a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Mary WcWhorter Division 58 in Danbury. In her spare time, Sheila enjoyed gardening, displaying her yearly Christmas decorations, and frequent vacation trips to the Outer Banks, NC. She had an excellent singing voice.
In addition to her husband Peter, Sheila is survived by her son: Peter M. Barrett and his wife Jean Huang of Beacon, NY, and her daughter: Elizabeth M. Barrett of Stamford, one sister: Kathleen Kilmer of Eastham, MA, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: Joseph A. and Timothy J. McCarthy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday November 30th in Saint Mary Church, Bethel. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel. The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street Danbury, on Thursday November 29th from 5 thru 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to one of Sheila’s favorite charities, the Wounded Warrior Project, or to the charity of one’s choice.
