Robert F. Simonelli, age 79, of Danbury, passed away at Danbury Hospital on December 12, 2012. He was born on September 12, 1933 in Danbury the son of Erziario and Florence Simonelli. Bob graduated from Danbury High School in 1951 and from Western Ct State University (then known as Danbury State Teachers College) in 1955. He served in the Army from 1955-1958. He received his Masters from Fairfield University in 1960 and his Sixth Year Certificate in 1965. He was a teacher at Hayestown School and then went to Mill Ridge School when it opened in 1958 where he later became principal and was involved in the opening of the Primary school in 1974. He ended his 38 year career in education in Danbury as principal at Park Avenue School in 1994. Bob had a huge heart and his willingness to help anyone in a time of need will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Bob was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Danbury. He served as a Trustee on the Board of Directors at the Danbury War Memorial, the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge, and Richter Park Men’s Club. In addition he was a member of the Top Hat Volunteers, Northern Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association, and was the recipient of the Annual Civic Award from the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge in 1991 and the Old Timer’s Sports Award in 1992. He enjoyed all sports, was an avid golfer, and long time fan of the Army Black Knights football. Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene Settle Simonelli; his children Susan Johnson and her husband Carl, Ed Simonelli and his wife Sandi, Linda Spaziani and her husband Domenic, and Jill Simonelli , as well as his five grandchildren Michael & James Simonelli, Amanda and Catherine Johnson, and Anthony Spaziani and a great grandson Andrew all of Danbury. In addition he is survived by his brother Dr. Joseph M. Simonelli of Danbury and a sister Flora Y. Fiandra of New Milford, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his brother Ted Simonelli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10am at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, with the Rev. Samuel V. Scott, Pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
