Bob was born in Oregon, Illinois on May 15, 1925, to Lee and Christine Gentry. He attended the University of Illinois, Champaign, graduating with a Masters in Accounting. He received his CPA designation and embarked on a 40 year career as a University Administrator at the University of Illinois, Harvard University, University of Wisconsin, and Seton Hall. Mr. Gentry was last employed as an administrator at Boehringer Ingelheim, in Danbury.
Bob served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a founding member of the Danbury Men’s Club and a member of the Ridgefield Men’s Club. He started the Adopt a Street Program in Danbury and was involved in numerous charitable organizations serving the Danbury community. His favorite enjoyments included listening to the St. Peter’s choir, playing bridge, and watching the Yankees.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by four children and their spouses: Spencer Gentry and wife, Mary Belle, of Framingham, MA; Ann Gentry Recine and husband Louis Recine, of Eau Claire, WI; Mary Gentry of Danbury, CT; and Carol Gentry of Midlothian, VA. His six grandchildren: David, Cara, Britt, Keith, Spencer and Richard. His 5 great grandchildren: Sam, Petra, Caprice, Miles and Haley.
Bob was a wonderful husband, father and friend. We are the luckiest people for having him in our lives and we will miss his sweet smile and perfect hugs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 5pm – 8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
