Always endlessly fascinated by the other things our Lord had created, Peter found himself studying the world at a young age. Without any push or nudge from anyone, he displayed an innate sense of curiosity and sought to understand everything around him. It was clear to all of us that Peter had been given a gift from the Lord - desire to study and with this gift, Peter would often accomplish feats like growing spring flowers in the winter, or nursing a motley group of insects ‘back to health’, all before he was even 5. Simply watching him watch everything is a warm memory that comforts whenever our thoughts become cold.
In Montessori Pre-School, and actually for most of his life, Peter often found himself at the center of quiet eccentricity when faced with activities, supposedly difficult, that were really all too easy for him. Most remember Peter as the quiet kid who would mostly smile and nod when people around him were in full-blown chaos. With warm, diligent and active eyes, it always took several efforts to get Peter to open up and contribute to a conversation, but when he did, his sheer brilliance came through. Taking up piano helped redirect some this inner brilliance and creative energy of his, an energy bursting at the seams with world changing potential. The piano showed Peter more about himself, and as he opened up to himself, we began to experience Peter more fully. What would have been just a half-hearted and one-worded answer in the past became replaced with intense outpouring of information far too mature for him not to have been blessed by our Lord.
In Henry Abbott Technical high school, Peter’s inner brilliance and creativeness exploded and began to manifest itself more outwardly. His apparently meaningless experiments and activities as a kid began to make far more sense, and teach us things that we never thought possible. The piano, no longer a challenging instrument to play, was pushed down in his extensive personal portfolio, to make room for beat sampling and music mixing. His interest in the beauty of movement and exercise meant that he never said “No” to any kind of sport, and became very skilled in many of them - with Skateboarding and Soccer as the top passions of them all. If there ever was beauty anywhere, in a person, activity, or thing, Peter had to get just as close as he could - to ensure that it was perfect in the eyes of the Lord. He always desired to help everyone and everything in his own small way and relished seeing the happiness in people’s eyes to arrive at a place, just a little closer to glory than before. That inner desire to help others coupled with his faith in the Lord made him a human force with a confidence we were all surprised to witness.
While still in college at Naugatuck Valley College, Peter was recruited to work as a machinist at Trumpf Inc where his diligence and hard work paid off. The organization was so impressed with his work ethic and stellar performance, they found him an apartment in Bristol to be closer to work He was also put on a fast track at work so they could feed that inner drive to learn and express himself through work.
While in Bristol, Peter’s desire to get closer to the Lord even in his independence led him to find a community of believers to worship with and he became an active member of Higher Ground Church. Again, his endless love for people and empathy led to the church bringing him onto a path towards leadership in the Youth Ministry.
Peter became a vehicle that brought our entire family closer to the Lord, using his brilliance to help us understand some of the complexities of this world.
We believe that it was this ardent belief in the Lord manifested in love for everyone around him, that made the Lord decide to bring a soul shining so brightly, a spirit that pushed only passion and love through the thick and dark smog of our worldly lives, to come spend eternity with him at his side on December 19, 2018. We must rejoice in this fact even though we miss our physical connection with Peter. He sought to understand the beauty here on earth, and has now found it in heaven. For us to find what we desire is humanity’s ultimately shared goal, a goal which many fail to reach - and we Rejoice in the fact that Peter found it before any of us.
