Patrick R. Waldron, 81, of Danbury passed away October 28th at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Danbury on Sept. 15th, 1933 to Harold and Alice Waldron, Patrick was married to his wife Barbara (Salvestrini) for 57 years and had 3 children.
He was a standout area athlete pitching no-hitters in both the Rogers Park League and American Legion in 1949. He also enjoyed playing softball
in the Industrial League, Sunday Bar League and Over 40 League thru out his softball career. He was also a contestant in the first Danbury Soapbox Derby which he would later help guide both his son Tracy and grandson Brett in becoming local champions. Pat also enjoyed the Danbury Race arena and rarely missed a Saturday night.
Pat was a Korean War Veteran, honorably discharged from the Navy. His greatest civic achievement was becoming Director of Veteran Affairs, a position he held for almost 30 years prior to his death. Besides being a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather he would find this position to be his calling in life. He fought relentlessly to help veterans, their widows and dependents for which he earned a plethora of awards. Pat was a member of American Legion Post #60, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #25, Korean War Veterans, Elks, Moose Order and the Americo Vespucci, just to name a few.
Besides his wife, Pat leaves behind his sons; Patrick, and wife Sheryl and Tracy and wife, Jennifer. His daughter: Pamela and husband, Brian. His granddaughters: Michelle and her husband, Brad; Daryle and husband, Cham; Jessica and Marissa. His grandson: Brett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4pm-8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
