Owen J. Martin Jr.

Owen J. Martin, 79, of Sarasota, FL died peacefully with family at his side in Sharon, CT on November 17, 2014. He was the loving husband of recently deceased Patricia S. Martin and was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

Mr. Martin was born on October 29, 1935 in the Bronx, NY. He attended Machine and Metal Trade High School in Manhattan, NY before attending Norwalk State College and serving a four year term as a Naval Airman. A New Fairfield, CT resident for over 42 years, Mr. Martin worked at Bernalli Construction Company and was a member of the Teamsters Local 677. He also belonged to St. Edward the Confessor Church and was an active member of the New Fairfield Lions Club for 31 years.

Mr. Martin retired to Sarasota, Florida where he was a member of the Empty Nester’s Club and an active member and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church. He also enjoyed his involvement with the Elk and Moose Clubs.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia (Sheeran) Martin, his parents, Owen and Jane (Mitchell) Martin, his brother, Michael James Martin, and his daughter, Patricia "Trish" Martin Pina.

Mr. Martin is survived by his son, Owen Martin III; and his daughter, Stacy Duncan. He is also survived by his son-in-laws, Gregory Pina and Robert Duncan. His six grandchildren: Brooke and Callie Pina, Jason and Sarah Martin, Courtnie and Ryan Duncan and 3 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends will be received on Sunday November 23rd from 2pm-5pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30am at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, CT. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield, CT.
