December 21,1933-August 1, 2019
Nicholas Mirkovich, (Nick) of New Fairfield, CT passed away peacefully at Regional Hospice Thursday morning, August 1, 2019. He was 85 years of age.
Nick was born in Trieste, Italy on December 21, 1933; the son of the late Milinko Mirkovic and Delija Gortani. He grew up in different areas of Europe with his parents and two brothers.
In his early life, Nick lived in multiple countries and learned to speak five different languages. He was an amazing musician who composed music, played many instruments, and was incredibly passionate about the accordion.
During his travels, Nick met his soulmate Ida on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy in 1965. They were married in Bremen, Germany on November 15, 1965 at his family restaurant ‘Belgrade’. The next year Nick immigrated to the US to share his life with Ida and start a family. They shared two daughters together, Alexandra and Stacy. Nick also had a third daughter who resides in Germany from a previous relationship, Katarina Jurgens-Stitz.
Nick and Ida shared a beautiful connection not only in their love, but through the arts and travel as well. They loved to discuss her amazing work as an artist and his as a musician; and after having children, they continued to travel the world and see beautiful sites together.
Nick was always a very hard worker whose constant goal was to provide for his family. He was an elevator mechanic and an electrician; he also worked for his family restaurant where he was an excellent server who put smiles on many faces. Nick’s amazing stories are one of the main qualities we will miss most about him. He had stories for days that painted a colorful picture of his worldly, fascinating life.
Nicholas is pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Pierino, and his loving wife Ida Tranquillo-Mirkovich.
Nick is survived by his daughters, Alexandra Mirkovich-Geanuracos (Derek Geanuracos), Stacy Mirkovich, and Katarina Jurgens-Stitz; his grandchildren Nicole Goodhue-Peralta (Luis Peralta), Samantha Stitz, and Alexander Mittelstadt; great grandchildren Caleb Peralta and Desmond Peralta; his brother, Alexander Mirkovich and sister-in-law Jelitza Mirkovich.
Nick will be missed very much but we hope he is now at peace and his soul has been reunited with his love Ida.
An intimate private viewing will be held for the family at Green Funeral Home.
Friends and family are welcome to join the burial service at 11:30am on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield with the Rev. Peter Karloutsos of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Danbury, officiating.
