Good Morning! My name is Nancy Lee (Graves) Carlson, and I am writing my own obituary. Who knows me better than I do? I was born to Margaret (Chopp) and Leon Graves on April 14, 1943 in LaPorte, Indiana.
As a toddler, my mother moved back to the Upper Peninsula of MI, where l was raised and went to school in the small town of Houghton. I grew up on ice skates and skated seriously in local annual ice revues from childhood through teen years. Hockey was and is my favorite sport. I met my husband Arthur (Bill) Carlson while he was attending the engineering university in my hometown.
Bill and I married in 1964 and had two sons, Curt and Sean before leaving MI. We moved to the Adirondack Mts. of NY before moving two years later to CT. We settled in Danbury over 45 years ago. Our neighborhood and friends turned out to be a treasure we couldn’t have foreseen when choosing our home. My family is my life, and my life is my family. Nothing else in the world is as important. I had many things that gave me much pleasure over the years, I am an avid reader, I loved photography and have a library of pictures that document our life and our travels.
After working as an aide in the Danbury School System for twenty years, I retired with Bill in 1998, and we spent the rest of our healthy lives traveling the world. What an amazing life for a small town girl! About twenty years of adventures on all seven continents, which includes Antarctica among the penguins...loving every minute of it! I do admit to one obsession...if it is soft and furry, cuddly, purrs and meows, then my heart melts to mush...l am addicted to kitties! My only regret in departing this world is leaving my loved ones. . ..my devoted and beloved Bill with fifty-five years of marriage behind us, my son, Curt Jarl, in FL and my two grandchildren there, Scott Ryan and Sarah Nicole. The CT family we have loved watching grow up in New Milford, and being so actively involved with every accomplishment of our grandchildren’s lives. Our son, Sean Scott, my daughter-in-law Linda Ann and grandchildren Kimberly Ann and Matthew Scott.
I have been blessed with the most amazing and loving family. I was the luckiest woman in this world; I am now heading on to meet my Heavenly Father.
