Martin was born on August 16, 1937 in Bronx, NY to Martin Blank and Theresia (Mueller) Blank. He went to school at Cardinal Hayes High School in Bronx, NY and graduated from the University of Bridgeport. Martin served in the Army National Guard for 9 years. He married Theresa (Unger) Blank on June 18, 1960 in Bronx, NY. Martin worked in various accounting positions throughout his career and upon his retirement was the Credit Manager for Berol Corp. He was very proud of his German heritage and was involved with several German clubs. Martin started his own “oompah” band in the 1970’s called the Edelweiss Buam.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Theresia Blank, and his sister, Loretta (Blank) Ifkovits.
Martin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa, his two sons, Martin J. Blank of New Fairfield and Richard P. Blank (Monica) of Woodbridge, VA and his daughter, Kristy L. Davenport (Peter) of Sandy Hook, CT. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Richard’s children include: Fr. Nicholas, Klarissa, Peter and his wife Bridget, Richard and his wife Danielle, Martha and her husband Samuel, Michael, Gabriel, Maria and Raphael. Kristy’s children include: Peter, Michael and Theresa. Additionally, he is survived by his 3 great grandchildren, Zelie, Frances and Charles. Martin is also survived by his brother Robert Blank and his wife Dianne of Sherman, CT as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 4pm-8pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. Danbury, CT.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 21 Brush Hill Rd., New Fairfield, CT. Father Nicholas will be officiating the funeral mass. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in New Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Martin's memory to the American Cancer Society.
