Martha Alison Peck McDonald, 97, of Danbury, CT, died peacefully in her sleep, in the surroundings that she wanted, the morning of May 31, 2016, in the Peck Dairy Farm Homestead (built by William Starr Peck, a 19th century Danbury First Selectman), her lifelong home, where she was also born May 11, 1919. She is predeceased by her parents, William Carman Peck and Martha Elizabeth Summerfield Peck, and her Stepfather Charles A. Peck and her late, loving husband of many years, William Hartnett McDonald, all of Danbury, and a baby granddaughter Alicia Cossack.
Martha (also known as Alison) was a farmer’s daughter, homemaker, and volunteer for the Red Cross, member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Ladies Auxiliary, avid crocheter and knitter, and lover of flowers and her cats. She greatly enjoyed her Sharon, CT log cabin that she and her husband built. She was a snowbird to Oldsmar, FL for a number of winters, always returning to the family homestead that she loved dearly and shared with her daughter, Alice and family, until she passed into Heaven.
Survivors include her daughter, June A. (Frank) McDonald Forster of New Fairfield, CT, her son, Charles A. (Rosemarie) McDonald, Sr. of Dunnellon, FL and Danbury, CT, and a second daughter, Alice M. (Thomas) Cossack of Danbury, CT; grandson, Charles A. (Magdalena) McDonald of Carmel, NY, grandson, Bryce D. Darcy of Glenmoore, PA, granddaughter, Suzanne E. McDonald of New Fairfield, CT, Jeffrey (Heather) Cossack, of Parksville, NY, Michael Cossack of Danbury, CT, Anne (engaged: Matt) Forster of New Fairfield, CT, four great grandchildren, Logan, Alexandra, Joseph, Victoria and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT, from 5 to 8:30pm, Friday, June 3. Funeral Mass will be at St. Edward the Confessor in New Fairfield, CT at 10am, Saturday, June 4.
