Maria was born in Portugal, January 25, 1930, daughter of the late Jose Antonio and Amália Alves. She emigrated to the United States with her husband, Edward and their family in 1960, making Danbury their home.
Maria enjoyed travel and her church, but especially spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked as a seamstress for several years before being employed with Davis and Geck, where she worked for many years until her retirement. She and her husband were active in funding and establishing of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Danbury and was involved in the Portuguese community.
Maria is survived by her children: Edward (Kimberly) of Danbury and Jane (Michael) of Bethel, three grandchildren; Jodie, Jamie, and Jacob, and four great grandchildren; Conor, Neala, Fiona, and Donovan. Maria is also survived by her brother Luis, and sisters Idalina and Alcina, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward of 60 years and her daughter Maria Olinda (Alfredo).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday March 2, 2024 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 149 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury. Entombment will follow in the Hilario-Correia family mausoleum at Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
