Marcel was born in Saint-Marc, Haiti, a son of the late Mores Garcia and Leonie Dorcemus. Marcel received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the State University of Haiti, and studied Computer Programming at Hunter College and La Salle Extension University in NY.
Marcel worked as a Senior Programmer/Analyst at a variety of firms, where most of his career took place at United Technologies Norden Systems, from which he retired and subsequently pursued independent consulting.
Marcel was a computer enthusiast, book lover, and avid reader. He was also a lifelong music lover. In retirement, he sang with The Silvertones choir and also taught himself to play ukulele and joined a local ukulele ensemble. He was also a member of the North American Taekwon-Do Association and had earned a First Degree Black Belt.
Marcel was predeceased by sisters Ghislaine French and Josette Marseille; and brothers Claude Garcia, Hilaire Dorcemus, and Lionel Garcia.
Survivors include his children: daughter Maud MacArthur and sons Herve Garcia, Marc-Alex Garcia, Patrick Garcia, and Ronald Garcia. Brothers: Guy Garcia, Henri Dorcemus, Manasse Dorcemus, Marc-André Dorcemus, and Octave Dorcemus. Grandchildren: Rebecca Naveira, Robert MacArthur, Stephanie Garcia, Lyra Garcia, Kyele Garcia, Ronaldo Garcia, and Adjanie Garcia.
Great-grandchildren: Rafael Naveira IV, Ricardo Naveira, Riley MacArthur, and Skyler MacArthur. God children: James Marseille and Tanya Grant. Many extended family members, friends, and colleagues.
Friends will be received from 11:30am - 2:00pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. Following the viewing, there will be an informal gathering of family and friends: contact Ronald Garcia for details.
