Manuel was born in Juncais, Portugal, a son of the late Francisco DeSousa and Joaquina Tomas. At the age of 17 he immigrated to the U.S. and lived in New Bedford, MA, and came to Danbury, CT in 1961, where he met his wife and fell in love at first sight.
Manuel was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked for Waters Construction for 33 years as a screed operator. He was a member of the Portuguese Cultural Center in Danbury. He enjoyed gardening and working outside, making wine, going to the beach, and was a passionate soccer fan.
He loved spending time with family and would do anything for his kids and grandkids. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, survivors include his two sons Daniel DeSousa and wife Isabel, and Rui DeSousa and wife Meredith, and grandchildren Daniella, Dominique, and Emmi. Siblings include Daniel DeSousa and wife Arminda, Angelina Bell, Albertino DeSousa and wife Anna, and Julia Trudeau and husband Larry. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his brother Adriano DeSousa and wife Ester.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 149 Deer Hill Rd. in Danbury, CT
Friends and family will be received from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT
