Born in Ansonia to the late Salvadore and Rose Travis Pinto, Lydia grew up on Pahquioque Avenue in Danbury and attended Danbury Schools.
In 1948 Lydia married Jose M. Nunes and raised their family in Danbury.
Lydia was very proud of her Portuguese heritage. She was an officer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sons of Portugal Club, where she contributed and participated proudly for many years. She was an amazing cook and avid gardener, with bird feeders scattered throughout, that she and Joe would sit and watch for hours. She loved the home she had built with her husband and hosted more family events then one could count. Her and Joe were happiest watching the youngest of each generation of their family grow, whether playing in their pool, on vacations, at family meals, etc. Beyond anything else Lydia’s family was her life, first, foremost and everything in between.
Survivors include her children: Antonio J. Nunes and his wife, Beverly; Rose C. Nunes; and Joe Nunes and his wife, Dana. Her grandchildren: Stacey Nunes-Ranchy, Tammi Chelednik, Jason Stewart, Anthony Nunes, Gage Nunes and Rylie Nunes. Her great-grandchildren: Charlee Stewart, Gabriel Stewart, Alexandra Ranchy, Amélie Ranchy, Trevor Chelednik, Skylar Chelednik, Olivia Nunes and Isabel Nunes.
Lydia was predeceased by her grandson, Antonio “TJ” Nunes, in 1972.
