She survived the war and came to New York with her sister, Ellen in 1947, where she had an exciting life as a young single woman in New York. She met her husband, Daniel playing tennis at the NY Athletic Club, where they won many tournaments.
In 1958, Lore and Daniel moved to Norwalk CT, where they raised their 4 children and had many good times, including playing tennis as a family. She worked with Daniel in his fundraising business.
In 1971 Daniel passed away and Lore continued to take care of the family. She worked as a bookkeeper at several companies until 1992, when she retired.
In 1977, she moved to Danbury, CT, and continued to live a full life. She was involved with activities at the Aqua Vista Association, New Beginnings, and the Women’s Club of Danbury/New Fairfield, where she was named Woman of the Year.
In 1992, she moved to New Fairfield, with her son Paul and family. She became active at the New Fairfield Senior Center and enjoyed her retirement. In 2006, she published her memoirs (In Search of New Horizons: A Young Girl's Journey from Nazi Germany to America).
In 2014, she moved in with her daughter Monica. She enjoyed bridge, was an excellent bridge player, and continued to play bridge weekly until she was 95.
Her final months were spent at the Hancock Hall nursing facility where many loving staff took excellent care of her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Daniel J. McCarthy, her mother Anna Louise Ziemer (Heinz), her father Otto Wallburg, her sister Ellen Steinhauser and her husband Tony Steinhauser, as well as her brother Rene Wasserzug.
