2020, in Danbury, CT at the age of 86. He was the beloved husband of 29 years of Sally
(Kelsey) Wiedenheft Behuniak.
He was born July 12, 1934, in Ansonia, CT, son of the late Jeffrey S. and Anna (Kluk)
Behuniak. He graduated from Seymour (CT) High School in 1953. He then attended Norwich
University (Northfield, VT), graduating in 1957. He married Marlene Corey the same year.
They were married for 31 years and raised four children. They spent many years at
Sunnybrook Lane in Clinton, CT, a time that Jeff remembered fondly. In 1991, Jeff married
Sally (Kelsey) Wiedenheft.
Jeff worked in the family soda fountain variety store in Seymour and several insurance
companies and retired from Connecticut Transit as a self-insurance claim manager in 2000.
He was instrumental in the establishment of the Southern Connecticut Claimsmen
Association. He was also chairman of the parish council of St. Augustine Roman Catholic
Church in Seymour and served on the boards of the Seymour Historical Society and Spooner
House, a homeless shelter in Shelton, CT.
Jeff and Sally enjoyed canoeing at their former home on Hopeville Pond in Griswold, CT, and
traveled extensively, spending several winters in Florida. Jeff enjoyed singing in Sally’s church
choirs, senior centers, and their resort in Fort Myers, FL. He did not enjoy wearing Sally’s
homemade Kermit the Frog costume in her variety shows but did it anyway.
In addition to his wife Sally, he is survived by three children, Deborah (and Thomas) Haydock
of Apex, NC, Linda (and Gary) Washington of New Milford, CT, and Steven (and Barbara)
Behuniak of Enfield, NH; a daughter-in-law, Alexandra Behuniak of Clinton, CT; eight
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and cousins. He was
predeceased by his beloved son, Jeffrey A. Behuniak; a grandson, Eric Mitchell; and a sister,
Barbara Howard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children’s
Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
