Janet Schwartz passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, September 11, 2020. This date has significance, as it was the 40-year anniversary of the day Janet met her husband, Chuck.
Janet and Chuck built a beautiful family in their 37 years together as husband and wife. Among her many achievements, her greatest pride and joy were her four children - Christina (CJ), Michael, Jason, and Rachel. She also especially loved her new role as “MomMom” to her grandchildren - Frank and Molly.
Janet was born in 1959 to Yolanda and James Steel, the youngest in the family. She and her older brothers, James and Thomas, grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ. She attended Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where she and Chuck met. Janet graduated from Jefferson in 1981 with her bachelor's degree in Medical Technology.
Before recently moving to her dream home in New Fairfield, CT, Janet was active for 30+ years her kid’s lives and in the Suffern, NY, community - always a Car-Pool Leader in the family mini-van, volunteer Book Fair Coordinator, and Lead Girl Scout Cookie Mom. She happily attended many sports games (baseball, softball, lacrosse, football, and volleyball, to name a few), Irish step dancing feis, dance recitals, choral presentations, and plays that the kids participated / starred in … all the while being the “brains of the operation at home,” in Chuck’s words.
Janet loved to play tennis, “putz” around the house, and lovingly kick her kids out from behind the island in the kitchen while she was cooking incredible meals, usually with double the required amount of garlic.
She had perfect penmanship, kept impeccable records of family finances/milestones/photos, and was adored by all of her siblings, in-laws, and extended friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to her cause of choice: the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (http://giftfunds.stjude.org/janetlschwartz) or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (https://give.themmrf.org/JanetLSchwartz), to help fight and find a cure for the disease that took her from us after an unflinching 16+-year battle.
To know Janet was to love her; she will be deeply missed.
Funeral Services will be private.
