James Gaboardi, 89, passed away peacefully at Bethel Health Care on August 22, 2017 with his family by his side. James, born to Louis and Cecilia Gaboardi, was a lifetime Danbury resident. Jim served in the United States Navy, was a Danbury Hatter and a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 40 years. Jim's passion in life, besides his dedication to his family, was his love for the Danbury Drum Corps. He was a life long member marching for 68 years. An annual award was created in his name to honor one outstanding member, who's dedication mirrored his passion for the corps.
Other organizations that Jim was a member of included The Exchange Club and The Catholic War Veterans. Jim received the Old Timers Award in 2002. Jim, a devoted Catholic, spent much time as an usher for Saint Peter Church. Jim will be remembered as an avid New York Giants fan and for his love of any kind of ice cream.
Jim was predeceased by his parents including his loving stepmother Marion, his devoted wife Dorothy, his brother Louis Jr. and grandson Steven.
Jim is survived by his daughter Debbie Henriques and husband Mack, his son Kevin Gaboardi and wife Linda and his daughter Karen Kraft and husband David. Jim also leaves behind his loving grandchildren; Meghan, Thomas, Eli, Michael, Matthew, Ryan and Sarah. In addition Jim will be missed by his sister Mary Lou Gauvin and many nieces and nephews.
An extraordinary moment was a simple Facebook post written by his granddaughter Meghan, resulting in this mailman never being forgotten and forever remembered. Jim received over 500 cards from friends and strangers from all over the world. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you as this outpouring of love support and kindness from everyone which revived his spirit and brought many smiles to his face.
Calling hours will be held at The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street Danbury, CT on Friday August 25, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30am at Saint Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury, CT. Burial to follow immediately at Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury, CT.
